Chase's birthday and Kaitlyn's recital

It's been a busy week between the big birthday (a day off with Daddy, Mommy and "D" and a trip to Chuck E. Cheese's), a cold, school, ballet lesson, an afternoon at the hardware store with Nini and Papa, Grammy and Grandpa visiting and a ballet recital! Here are some highlights!

One Last Taste of Winter (fingers crossed!)

Kaitlyn and Chase took advantage of what we hope was the last taste of winter! Bring on the sunshine and 80s!

These last two are what happens when you leave your kids alone unsupervised for five minutes to try to shovel one last thing...the bag of marshmallows was nearly new.

Children's Museum

We spent Wednesday at the Children's Museum with Jenn and the boys. It was a really nice day!

...trying to talk Mike into putting one of these in the basement. It'll probably happen just as soon as we get the swingset and the dog (in other words, when pigs fly).

Kaitlyn and Mason learning how to pour a draft. We start 'em early.

Artists in the making.

The fishing was fun but they needed a bigger boat!

A good week

Well, Mike's been outta town this week so the kids and I have been flying solo! I'm actually really surprised that we've had such a good week. I gotta be honest though, I'm exhausted! I'm trying to wind down tonight but for some reason, I'm having a hard time settling. I have a TON of work to get done and no energy to do it. Tomorrow is my day...it HAS TO BE! I'm so thrilled to have some new work projects but I wasn't really thinking too clearly when I agreed to do it while Mike was gone. C'est la vie...life goes on.

The kids and I spent time with Jenn, Mason and Keller on Monday before Kaitlyn had school. Tuesday was a trip to the zoo and then the afternoon with Nini and Papa. Today we had a shopping spree at Kohl's (Kaitlyn will have summer clothes!), then school and finally dinner with the Smiths followed by Drew's first soccer game. It was really fun. I wish Mike had been there too because it was so cute and very amusing! Unfortunately (and fortunately!!) I managed to run over a 4x4 block of wood while traveling about 55 mph down 225. I saw it coming at the last second but really couldn't avoid it without possibly creating a worse situation so we hit it dead on with my front left tire. Everything felt okay so I continued to the next exit and pulled over in a parking lot to check it out. The tire/car were fine but I was a little nervous about driving it on the highway so I took side streets home. Our fairly quick trip home took forever! Plus in my anxiety I called Mike which probably didn't help his efforts to sleep! No worries, we were well guarded as we got home safe and sound. I'll keep an eye on it tomorrow though.

Well, tonight the kids are both fast asleep in my bed. The first night Mike was gone they both slept in Chase's room. Last night Kaitlyn decided she needed to have a sleepover in my room so Chase was on his own. Tonight though Kaitlyn was already asleep when we got home and I knew that if she woke up in her bed she would be very upset so I put her in mine. Of course, Chase was wide awake and when he saw her in my bed he wasn't really willing to consider his own room. Now I'm wondering...where will I be sleeping tonight? I think I could sleep anywhere right now so I'll make the most of it. Here's a picture for your enjoyment though!

Mike will be home tomorrow night and we'll be very happy to see him. Kaitlyn told my dad yesterday, "Daddy is on a vacation in Florida". I had to laugh...I'm surprised she knows what a vacation is! I'm sure he's not thinking it's a vacation! Chase just knows Daddy is on an airplane (he says hi to Daddy everytime he hears a plane) and that he'll be bringing home a present from Mickey Mouse. I love their innocence. Now all we have to do is survive Kaitlyn's dentist visit tomorrow morning (they're taking X-rays...can't wait to see how that goes) and then we'll be home free! Good night for now!

New 'do!

She's ready for summer now! No more crying when we brush it, hair in her dinner plate or near misses when clipping her carseat. Plus she looks really cute!
